Green Wood Spoon Carving

Learn to carve wooden spoons, spatulas, or butter knives from freshly cut ‘green’wood.

All tools will be supplied but you may bring your own if you have them. Knives will be for sale so that you can continue carving when you get home.

There is no end to the variety of wooden spoon designs that can be created, from the most simple and rustic spoon to something extremely polished and ornate. You will start your spoon carving with a piece of freshly cut ‘green’ wood which you will cut and split. During the course you will learn the safe and effective use of bushcraft carving knives, axes and crook knives. After carving, the wood dries and hardens so that it can be sanded. You will be able to do this at home before you oil it. By the end of the course you should have made at least one spoon or spatula that you can use at home. You will also be able to try a variety of spoon carving tools and tequniques and get advice on what to purchase if you want to continue carving at home. How to sharpen all the tools will be included in the workshop. May of the carving skills you will learn have other uses in the world of bushcraft.

Warning – wooden spoon carving can be addictive! This could be the beginning of a lifelong passion.
