Learning to Lead Climb

An introduction to lead climbing indoors – the course is designed to help you acquire the basic skills, knowledge and confidence to enable you to lead climbs in indoor climbing walls. This is good preparation for leading on real rock but does not cover gear placement or multi pitch climbing.

Topics covered
  • Clipping (In situ and leader placed )
  • Safety of the climber and other wall users
  • Falling
  • Rope management
  • Belaying for a lead climber
  • Avoiding common errors
By the end of the course you should be able to lead climb at any indoor wall and with some appropriate support from an experienced climber, be able to climb single pitch bolted climbs outdoors.

Instructor
The course will be taught by James Linford who is a highly experienced climbing instructor and holder of the Mountain Instructor Award. A certificate of attendance will be issued.

Times and Dates on application
The course lasts for a total of 3 hours over two evenings.
